I Went To The Market...

Do you remember when you were at nursery school, and the teacher would play the game "I went to the market"? All the children would sit around in a circle and one by one say something that they had 'bought' at the market, and then everyone would have to add an extra thing to the list and remember the last items? Fancy a 'grown up' version of that game? Well sit down quietly children and I'll begin - because on Sunday I Went to the Market...and I bought...a Lamp...
...I went to the market and I also bought...a painted Table!
So let's see...that makes a Lamp (for my son's desk) and a painted Table (I have 3 others similar to this!)...and...
...I went to the market and I ALSO bought a...retro style Radio!
Right then - where are we - are you keeping up? I went to the market and I bought, a Lamp (for my son's room), a painted Table (of which I have 3 others!), a retro style Radio (for my husbands retro style study!) and a...Vase!
Actually, not just a vase - but a Fulham Pottery, Constance Spry vase to add to my rather large Fulham Pottery collection - RESULT!
Let's recap, I went to the market and I bought, A Lamp (for my son's room), A painted Table (of which I have 3 others!), A retro style Radio (for my husbands retro study) A Vase...(to add to my growing Constance Spry for Fulham Pottery Collection)...AND I bought..another Table!
This time an occasional table for my drawing room, which I shall paint in some sort of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint loveliness - probably her 'French Linen' or 'Old Ochre' - haven't quite decided yet.
So basically, I went to the Market and I came back VERY happy indeed. And above is my final "I Went To The Market" loot shoot! I hope that you all had a good weekend - any bargain hunting of your own?
P.S. Thank you all SO much for your wonderful and kind comments to earlier posts - They really, REALLY do make my day!!! image courtesy of: First and last photographs by Tim Walker; all other images taken by me!

  6. Oooooh Paula!! You had a successful trip to market! I love your tables, I don't think you can have enough of those and can't wait to see your Annie Sloan makeover. Also, adore your radio, I love that retro style. Been thinking of buying one of those Roberts radio's to bring out in the garden with me!! The one you found is gorgeous. Oh yes, chicken update. I was at a gardening event on Saturday at my fav garden centre. They had a day of talks etc and there was a poultry seller there. Like you, I got loads of books but it was really great talking to him and getting the low down on the whole thing. Will post what I found out - I think I am one step closer to actually getting chickens AND ducks! Have you made any decision?? Also, do you have an email address??

    1. Hi Jill, the market is in Ely. It's on about once every couple of months, and some days I return with absolutely nothing, and others I'm bursting at the seems - let me know what you're on the lookout for and next time I'll keep an eye open for you. I see the painted tables all of the time! Paula xx

  9. Thank you for visiting us and following Red Rose Alley. I love little markets like these, and I love finding that perfect item. The white vase on here looks very much like my mom's gravy boat from 1940 - very pretty. Have a sweet day.

Great buys. I see from your reply to Jill that the market was in Ely. I go to Ely all the time! - well not ALL of the time but you know what I mean .... yep, always stop for tea at Peacocks after a good rummage next door in the antique emporium. I didn't know about the market though - must keep an eye out for it.

  41. Hi lovely,

I tried to email you but you come up as 'no reply'....so here's what I was going to say:

Oh, yes...I bet this colour would be right up your street. I can just imagine it in your incredibly gorgeous house.

I know, I laugh at myself too - well, it's wither that or cry!! And would you believe that we've starteed on our front garden. What am I thinking. I must confess to have a bit of a stressy day yesterday!!!

I can't tell you how thrilled I am that you've returned to blogging. Not meaning to sound psycho, but I did quite regularly think about your blog in the 'missing months', and wonder what you up to!! And there's not many blogs that I do that with - yours is one of my absolute favourites!!
