But Where Do They Put The Shoes?

So, carrying on with the Georgian / Regency theme - the next characteristic that enchants me are the staircases. The beautiful, smooth turned circle of wood that forms the handrail, which in turn flows sinuously from top to bottom - often curved and turned to suit the flow of the stairwell. So simple, yet so elegant - I ADORE them. But please, somebody tell me - with the exception of artistically arranged leather riding boots - where does everybody keep their shoes???

Have a great week!

  1. Gorgeous staircases! Great question too:-). Maybe the homes were all staged for the pics and usually there's a messy gathering of shoes. I doubt that though-i'd also love to know where the shoes are kept:-)

  2. Hahaha great question! Maybe in one of those hidden cubbies or the nearest closet? Fabulous pics :) Have a wonderful day! xoxoxo ~Ashley

  3. I am sure some of those staircases have amazing under stair cupboards full of shoes. Much better than the pile of shoes in MY hallway!

  4. Without a doubt, in their walk in wardrobe where several very nicely designed shelves display a delightful array of designer shoes and other. This goes for Madame and Monsieur ofcourse!

  5. Wonderful staircases and good question about the shoes? Our hallway has shoes but it would be nice to have a place to tuck them away. I'll stare at these pictures and dream of being shoeless!

  6. Ah you see, if you had dirty/mucky shoes you would use the back door :) Therefore no need for storage at the front stairs, that was for the gentry only :)

    All things nice...

  7. These stairs are dreamy. I especially love the first image - classic and charming. About those shoes - hmmmmm...

  8. ... that is the question. In our home you can see, how many people are at home. Often you will find a lot of shoes directly behind the door.

  9. Lovely stairs. I think they might bring their shoes into the room.(lol) I have a buffet cabinet at the entrance and put all the shoes inside.

  10. Gorgeous stairways - maybe they have a secret door leading underneath the stairs for all their messy shoes. Thanks for visiting me too.

  12. I think I've enjoyed the comments as much as your post! So...don't you keep your shoes in your closets in the UK? I think I like the answer about using the back door - makes sense.

  14. What a pretty group of staircases. Maybe they have a secret hidden compartment, a table with a skirt that they shove them under or a back entrance. Just a thought... :)

  15. Dreamy, glamorous and elegant Georgian staircases. Where to put all the footwear?
In a custom made wak-in wardrobe. Or a special antique shoe box;-)
Warmly hopes the lady is well. XX

  17. Dear Mrs. Sutton, What a joyous collection of staircases you show us here. They are, as you say, so beautifully sinuous, snaking their way from the hall to the attics. A 'flight' of stairs takes on a new meaning here as these staircases seem to float and beckon one to fly up to the next floor.

As for shoes....there is always the Boot Room. All manner of clutter goes in there.

  18. Georgian hallways and stairs always look so elegant don't they, and often with a banister that cries out to be slid down! So much light, love it and the pics.

  19. LOL My husband would tell you that they take their shoes to their closets. I tend to leave my stuff everywhere, but clearly, they also keep their shoes somewhere else. I love the photos.

  20. Hahaha - OK, full confession, I used to have a hallway table where I made a skirt to shove shoes under (I didn't know where else to put them!) These are such dreamy photos - full of light & air...and I wouldn't mind climbing to my bedroom up that second staircase, not at all :)

  21. Hahaha good question! I guess they hide them away somewhere. The riding boots look great out on display though, don't they? :)
